Stretch
Vector Illustration
108 x 60 inches
What started off as a simple self-portrait soon turned into a seven-panel scene reminiscent of a Japanese screen.

I was originally inspired to do a life-size portrait similar to 80's artist Robert Longo.

But then I realized it'd be more fun if there was something strange I could put into this. Eventually, I started thinking of Salvador Dali's elephants with stretched legs.

Once I had that spike shape to work with, I started repeating it in several of the panels. Meanwhile, I came across a small illustration of a fish windsock on a sushi menu.

I went crazy with those guys and even thought I'd have one swallowing my legs. That was too much so I ended up using the fish eye as a pattern much like Takashi Murakami.

Finally, I output the Illustrator file on our Epson 9600. Each panel was printed on Smooth Fine Art paper, mounted on foam core, and floated off the wall behind my work desk.
